Bournemouth is located on the southern coast of England and enjoys a mild climate. With seven miles of golden sands and sparkling sea, only a short walk from the school, this vibrant cosmopolitan town has it all. Bournemouth is famous for its entertainment venues, educational and sports facilities, and its restful atmosphere. Founded in 1800, the town has grown into a resort which is characterised by its wide, tree-lined avenues and pedestrian areas. Victorian architecture is complemented by beautiful gardens, modern stores, cafes, and eateries. Visitors are sure to enjoy loads of memorable experiences.
Our English language courses have a workload of 15 hours per week over 20 lessons of 45 minutes each. All our courses include language skills development, project work and a hands on approach which aims at preparing students for educational trips and outings. We also encourage our learners to put the new language they learned into practice by engaging in creative tasks and facing real life situations with confidence. The academic programme caters for the specific needs of the different age groups (pre-teens, early teens and mid-teens) and provides a set of sporting and cultural activities, as well as excursions and other events, which will enable the students to build up knowledge and confidence in multicultural settings.
During our English language courses students will attend 4 45-minute lessons everyday (20 lessons per week). The duration of each lesson allows students to keep focused and motivated as they switch from new language input to practice and production. Lessons are planned so that students have the opportunity to interact with students from other countries and help each other improve their English. All our teachers hold a certificate or diploma from University of Cambridge, which guarantees the quality of our academic programme. The use of music, arts and technology play a great role in our summer curriculum as our academic team believes that student engagement is only possible through lessons that are relevant to their lives and interests. As an accredited centre by the British Council and member of English UK, all our courses have a maximum of 16 students per class from different cultural backgrounds.
Students will do a level test and have a quick chat with our academic team before they are placed in a group of students of the same age and level.
Our levels follow the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) and are organised as follows:
What are the levels?
We offer the following levels in our English for Life programme.
How can I find my level?
The first step is to do our online test. After that you will have a little chat with Tamara Leacy, our Director of Studies, and she will be able to tell you which of the levels above you should start from.
We offer both host family and residential accommodation to all our students.
All students can choose between homestay and residential accommodation.
Staying with a family is probably the best way to practise your English and learn more about the British way of life. Bournemouth is a city of many cultures and this is reflected in the homestays we use. Families are carefully selected for their friendliness, cleanliness and access to and from the school. Host family homes are regularly inspected and most of our families are located within 20-45 minutes away from school by public transport. The family will provide all the necessary assistance. Services included:
Single/shared room for students of the same sex
Full board (breakfast, pack lunch and dinner)
Laundry, sheets and towels provided by the family
Staying in one of our residences is the perfect way to live and socialise with students of similar ages from other countries. We offer a full programme of evening activities at the residence daily. Our residencies offer the following:
Lockable single rooms, en-suite (toilet, sink and shower);
Bed, desk and wardrobe with a shelf and hanging rail;
Room size: approx. 14.2sq m;
Laundry services available;
Bedding and towels provided;
Full board (breakfast, hot lunch and dinner);
Adaptor plugs are not provided, but needed;
1 leader per apartment to look after the welfare and security.
Students staying at the residence will have full board, which will include:
Continental breakfast at the College cafeteria form Mon-Fri and at residence at the weekend.
Hot lunch will be served at the College cafeteria from Mon-Fri.
Hot dinner will be served at the College cafeteria from Mon-Fri.
At the weekend students will get pack lunch (triple sandwich + bottle of water + bag of crisps or chocolate bar) and dinners will be served at a nearby restaurant.
